There’s so much advice out there on how to be mindful-or maybe it’s just my algorithm. But I really hope it’s not just me. I hope we’re all getting bombarded with guides, steps, and ideas on how to be present. And more than anything, I hope we’re actually trying.
Because let’s be honest: there’s a lot of pressure out there. Pressure to perform, to balance, to excel at every damn thing. And now? Pressure to do all that mindfully. Like, “Hey, while you’re crushing it at life, don’t forget to breathe and be Zen about it.”
At its core, it’s about paying attention to the present moment. In body and mind, without judgement. Sounds lovely. But in this fast-paced, notification-filled world? Not exactly easy.
And the advice? It’s plenty. Some of it sounds silly. Or so simple you wonder if you’re being played. “Just breathe.” “Count backwards from 10.” “Stare ate a leaf.
It’s easy to dismiss. Or fall int routines. Or copy what everyone else is doing and then wonder why it’s not working for you.
Here’s what I think( and no, I’m not an expert-just a slightly frustrated human): mindfulness is like life. You’ve got to try things out. See what fits. If calming music works better than counting backwards-go with the music. If walking meditation grounds you more than stilling still for 20 minutes-get up and walk. Don’t torture yourself with someone else’s version of peace.
We’re wired differently. Different things stress us out. So it makes sense that different tools will help us find calm. And if the “popular” method doesn’t work for you? That’s okay. You’re not broken. You’re just…you.
Try things. Toss what doesn’t work. Keep what does. Make your mindfulness your business. Your way.
