Forward, In Circles

The journey of self-discovery, growth, and personal improvement rarely feels like a straight path. Instead, it often resembles moving in circles-returning to familiar struggles, thinking we’ve mastered something, only to realize there’s more to learn.

I tell myself, This is it. I’ve got this now. Next week, I should be able to meditate for 20 minutes. But then I learn that progress isn’t just about holding steady-its about increasing intensity l, stretching beyond what’s comfortable. It’s healing from what I thought was the root of mistrust, only to uncover another layer that also needs addressing.

And the habits-oh, the habits. The bad ones we commit to letting go of, only to find triggers everywhere the moment we make the decision. The second you vow ro quit, the world suddenly feels full of temptations-more parties, more invitations, gifts arriving with the very things we’re trying to leave behind. And then, after slipping for the umpteenth time, we’re right back where we started, fighting the same battle again.

Building a positive mental attitude requires conscious effort. Some advocate for mantras, others for counterthinking. But at it’s core, it’s about catching negative thoughts before they settle, replacing them with positive ones, and repeating them-over and over- until they become second nature. Until optimism becomes instinct, and self-doubt has no space to take hold.

Only, we’re not truly repeating the same cycle. It may feel like the same challenge, but it evolves each time. The difficulties grow tougher, demanding new strategies and greater resilience. But it’s never exactly the same fight, never exactly the same circle.

Sometimes, progress feels invisible at first. We don’t see dramatic changes from the outset. But once we’ve built the right habits, once we’ve trained ourselves to reject negativity instinctively- momentum takes over. And just like in physics, movement begets movement.

Perhaps the going in circles means when we finally take off, we go faster, we go farther. And Ultimately,  we are unstoppable.

About Me

I’m Betty-the creator behind NdukuOutLoud. The name comes from my middle name, Nduku and “Out Loud” is my quiet rebellion against being, well…quiet. Naturally introverted, but this blog is where I speak up-about life, growth, and the everyday moments that shape us.

It’s raw, it’s real, and hopefully, it resonates with you too.
