I don’t know about best, but I do have a few simple ones that I try to stick to as much as I can.
1. Eat when hungry—and just enough.
Maybe this is a tiny act of rebellion against the rigid structures of the clock. Nobody consulted me before deciding that breakfast must happen at 8:00 a.m., lunch at 1:00 p.m., and dinner on the dot. So, I’ve stopped pretending my body runs on a schedule. If I’m hungry way before anyone else is even thinking about breakfast – so be it. I eat when I am hungry. And I stop when I’ve had just enough.
As I write that, I realize just how privileged and maybe even a little spoiled it sounds. To have the luxury of eating when I want. To have enough to eat in the first place.
I hope I never take that for granted. And I pray we eventually live in a world where this is true for everyone -not the stark inequality we see today. The shortages, whether man-made or beyond our control, leave some with nothing while others are spoiled for choice. It might sound like wishful thinking, but I don’t believe a fairer world is impossible.
2. A shared meal (almost) always tastes better.
There are times when eating solo is the only option, and times when poor company ruins a perfectly good plate. But when you are surrounded by kind, good people, the food simply tastes better.
Shared laughter makes it easy to forgive the chef who went a little too heavy on the salt, or the spices that didn’t quite get along. The conversation turns the meal into an event, rather than just a task to check off.
3. Any time is fruit time.
The internet is full of rules telling us the exact right hour to eat an apple, or what complex combinations we need to digest an orange properly. While I’m sure there is real science behind some of it – and that the people sharing these guides mean well-I refuse to overcomplicate it.
I don’t think there is ever a wrong time to eat fruit. If you want it, eat it. Any time is fruit time.
4. Don’t juice it.
If you can chew it and swallow it without a struggle(beetroot).I won’t bother juicing it.
Juicers are a hassle to clean, and the fruit is already perfect as it is. Slice it up, chew it, and move on with your day.
At the end of the day, our bodies are all running on different operating systems with different needs. There is no master formula. The best habit is simply finding what feels sustainable for you-and sticking to it.
